TARC Technical Team Member

Position Summary-

 The position will be that of a member of the technical team and assist the Principal Investigator as the resident fiber science and technology expert. The incumbent will participate in the development of

characterization and identification techniques of fiber bundles is wood pulp sheets and slivers  used at

the Radford  VA NTIB  for Nitrocellulose and will participate in various  technical tasks related  to how wood  pulp sheet properties affect  "nitratability". The incumbent will be the person responsible for writing, summarizing, and reporting on literature searches on subjects related to the above  from his perspective as a fibers expert.

Person Reports To- Position reports to the Principal Investigator of the TARC program, Dr. Costas Gogos.

Essential Functions-

 Provide fiber science expertize to the TARC program

  1. Participate in the design and interpretation TARC experimental activities.
  2. Participate in TARC weekly and Comprehensive monthly meetings and contribute to TARC reports
  3. Execute assignments as defined by the TARC director.
  4. Maintain a database of the science and engineering literature relevant to the nitration of cellulose and summarize appropriate documents for the TARC Team

Prerequisite Qualifications- Minimum 10 years of industrial experience in fiber science,including fiber manufacturing, fiber characterization and research methods relevant to fiber performance

Education/Degree Required- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.

Knowledge/Skills Required

Experience in polymer research and manufacturing with emphasis on fiber production and characterization
