The Part-Time Nurse Abstractor will abstract or extract clinical data from medical practices in New Jersey for multiple projects such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP), and the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). The incumbent will be trained to know the abstraction information, the tools, and technology that will be used to conduct abstraction.  During the abstraction periods, the Nurse Abstractor will travel to multiple medical practices to abstract data from paper medical charts and/or electronic medical records (EMRs).  There might also be opportunities for remote abstraction of clinical data from EMRs.  It is important for the Nurse Abstractor to know how to communicate with the office staff of participating medical practices to facilitate abstraction duties.  Reliability, schedule flexibility, and willingness to travel are required to help complete the abstraction tasks on time.  Ability to work  at a minimum 10 hours per week during abstractions periods, travel up to 30 miles to a job site and learn new technology from physician or medical staff.  The abstraction period is defined until April 30, 2020, and during the business hours of Monday- Friday, 8AM -5PM EST. There may be some possibilities of working on weekends and after hours during the week; can start as early as 7am & can exceed 5pm.

Prerequisite Qualifications –

Education/Degree Required

  • Registered Nurse Degree (Required)
  • Licensed in US

 

Years of Experience Required

  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in using both paper medical charts and electronic medical records in either hospital or medical clinics/offices.

           

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Experience with compliance relating to the HIPAA Privacy Rule in protecting health information of patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and population health
  • Demonstrates knowledge of meaning and usage of medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Basic knowledge and content of Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP),Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and/ or other quality incentive payment programs
  • Ability to accurately collect and enter clinical information into HCIS’s data entry tools
  • Computer skills including the ability to log into and navigate remote screen sharing technology, use of and familiarity with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
