Assoc. Director/Director, Project and Alliance Management, Biopharma iLab

Position Summary – The primary objective of this position is to facilitate the organizational strategy development/tracking, alliance and budget management, and to lead program management function for Biopharma iLab. 

Person Reports To – Haro Hartounian, Ph.D., Senior Executive Director of the Biopharma iLab.

Essential Functions –

  • Lead program management and assist BioPharma iLab leadership team in developing and implementing iLab’s strategies to meet the needs of our partners, and to set program priorities and resources accordingly.
  • Develop and review project service agreements in collaboration with our legal and finance departments and with the external partners.
  • Establishes a firm understanding of contract terms for existing alliances. Proposes and negotiates contract amendments if necessary in order to maximize BioPharma iLab’s success and value. Provides advice and input into collaboration agreements under negotiation.
  • Ensures productive collaborations that operate consistent with the terms of the agreement and goals of the BioPharma iLab.
  • Facilitate meetings and coordinate activities to facilitate the partnering process, build relationships, and enhance NJII’s reputation as a preferred partner.
  • Establishes regular communication with the partner organization to build credibility, trust, and respect and support future strategic partnering activities for BioPharma iLab. Develop an understanding of customer requirements and objectives.
  • Manage multiple alliance partners, work closely together with the BioPharma leadership team and monitor deliverables to assure quality and timely completion of the projects.
  • Develop project scope, budgetary plans, resource allocation, schedule, and dashboard to measure success.
  • Prepare materials for internal and external presentations, Gantt charts to plan and manage project schedule/critical path activities, and resources. 
  • Track budget utilization of all active projects to keep BioPharma leadership and NJII central functions current.
  • Oversee BioPharma iLab’s workforce development budget and strategies.
  • Provide BioPharma leadership reports on progress and status of active projects.
  • Draft grants for submission to industry, academia, and government agencies.





Prerequisite Qualifications –

  1. Education/Degree Required- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Biology, Engineering or related relevant discipline, preferably in the life sciences


  1. Years of Experience Required- A minimum of 3 year of project and alliance management/coordination experience


  1. Knowledge/Skills Required
  • Demonstrated, strong writing skills
  • Utilizations of project management tools like Microsoft Projects
  • Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications –

  • Experience working with biopharmaceutical companies
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively, good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and act on dynamic information at a rapid pace
  • Team player with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity in using CRM for relationship management
  • PMP Certification will be a significant plus
